From watts to the electricity bill
Power in watts describes the rate at which an appliance uses energy. Divide watts by 1,000 and multiply by hours to obtain kWh. A thermostat, standby mode or variable-speed motor means actual consumption may differ from rated power.
What the estimate includes
The calculator estimates the energy component using your price per kWh. Network charges, contracted power, taxes and time-of-use tariffs may also appear on the final bill.
Useful comparisons
Compare high-power appliances used for long periods first. Heating, water heating, tumble drying and cooling often provide larger savings opportunities than small electronics.
